Badisches Staatstheater

On 19.05.2022 we were allowed to visit the Staatstheater Karlsruhe (Baden State Theater) on a guided tour with a special focus on civil engineering. The building looks quiet from the outside, but there is a lot going on inside. The Staatstheater is being renovated over the next few years. The special thing about it is that the renovation will take place during everyday life in the theater with performances of ballet, opera, concerts, plays and much more. A really exciting project in which coordination and organization play a major role and in which the construction and theater industries clash on a daily basis and compromises are part of the job.

During the tour, we were able to see the Staatstheater from the inside and take a look behind the scenes. At the moment, you can see unusual things, such as the staircase that leads to nowhere, or office containers that stand on a canopy because the workplace is needed. Thanks to the guidance of two civil engineers from the IngenieurGruppe Bauen, who have been working on this project for years, it was possible to ask engineering questions about the process or technical questions.

All in all, the tour was a great success. The students enjoyed it and we would like to thank the Staatstheater for the tour, the insights and the support of the IngenieurGruppe Bauen!
