Cairo
The "CivilNile" exchange took place in Egypt from 26.01.19 to 03.02.19. During this week we, an international group of about 40 civil engineering students and alumni, traveled through Egypt.
The first part of the event took place in Cairo. There we listened to lectures on water scarcity in Egypt at the university, visited an aquaponics farm and toured New Cairo. Of course, we didn't miss out on the typical sightseeing, so we rode camels at the pyramids of Giza, visited the Egyptian Museum and the historical part of Cairo.
For the second part of the exchange, we traveled south along the Nile by night train for 13 hours. In Aswan we stayed in a typical Nubian guesthouse and were able to get to know everyday life there. During our stay, we visited the Aswan Dam, which provides a permanent water supply in Egypt. The dam is almost 4 km long, 111 m high and 980 m wide at its base. On our last day, we visited the Temple of Philae. This had to be moved to another location due to the newly created reservoir. At the end of this event, we ate on an island together with Nubians and learned a Nubian dance.
Many thanks to LC Cairo for giving us these extraordinary insights into historical architectural wonders and contemporary buildings!
