Rhine harbor steam power plant Karlsruhe
Despite the lockdown and the associated restrictions on public life, we had the opportunity to take part in an online tour of the Rheinhafen steam power plant by EnBW on 15.02.2021. We started with almost 50 people in the MS Teams meeting. First of all, we were introduced to the general challenges of the Energiewende, the current energy mix in Germany and the role EnBW plays in this. As the online tour progressed, we were guided step by step through the plant and its technical features. A team of employees on site joined us live from time to time. A former shift manager was able to answer all our technical questions in detail. The alternation between presentation and live tour was implemented very cleverly and with technical know-how from EnBW. After almost 2 hours, all questions were answered and the online tour came to an end.
In conclusion, it was very exciting and informative to gain an insight into the Energiewende, our current energy mix, the challenges we face with regard to the Energiewende, the expansion of renewable energies, as well as the Rheinhafen steam power plant itself and the technical systems used in it.
We would like to thank EnBW for allowing us to take part in this online tour and get to know Karlsruhe from a different perspective.
