Tunnel visit Rastatt

The Rastatt Tunnel Info Center was the starting point for our tour. The exhibition there gave us an insight into the progress of the entire Rhine Valley Railway project with a focus on the tunnel work in Rastatt. It was particularly interesting to take a closer look at the model of the tunnel boring machine. Together with the information film, which was part of the presentation of the Rastatt tunnel, we were able to visualize the work of the machine and thus the tunnel construction. After we had been able to clarify all our remaining questions in a detailed discussion with a DB employee, he took us to the construction site. We were guided through the future tunnel entrance, where the impressive precast concrete parts and various machines were stored, to the tunnel entrances. We were even allowed to walk a short distance into the "breakdown" tunnel, which had partially collapsed just a few months earlier. There we were given an explanation of the special arrangement of the individual segments. At the end of the tour, we returned to the information center with a wealth of information and impressions.
