In November, we were able to get a guided tour of the Kombilösung Karlsruhe construction site.
After some interesting information, we went down into the subway tunnel: We explored the southern branch from the congress center to the market square and reached areas that will later no longer be accessible to users.
The shell of the building had been completed there, so it was easy to explain where the differences lay compared to the original plan, which could no longer be implemented due to stricter fire safety regulations. A number of new walls had to be erected to separate the staircases, for example. Similarly, premises planned as a kiosk or similar in the Marktplatz stop may now not be used as such.
We were able to see at first hand how the walls were visually designed: the concrete that had been stripped out is being poured piece by piece by hand.
Finally, we reached the surface again at Marktplatz after visiting the track triangle there.
It will be exciting to see when we can drive through the tunnel in the subway.
